A Rainy Day

Another rainy day here in California. It's pretty much been non stop for 2 weeks. On a positive note we've had lots of time to splash in puddles, cuddle on the couch to read and started numerous art projects. This morning Miss 12 decided she wanted to make a pour painting. If you've never had your kids try it - give it a go. We use these pour paints and love them.

She made a super colorful and textured painting using some paper towels to create some depth. Yesterday she and her sister had their art class with a local artist, so they are always inspired to try new things and ideas the next day.

When we visit the library my girls pick out a lot of books as do I. Sometimes I go in with an idea in mind of a topic to cover, but often I'll just go in and pick out loads of books on different topics that look interesting. Topics we haven't covered before or topics that I know they will be interested in. One of those books was this astrology one from DK. Miss 12 has been interested in astrology for some time and this book really broke it all down in a fun and interesting way. We read this on the couch all together amazed at how accurate some descriptions were about us and people we know. And laughing at how inaccurate some of the descriptions were ;).

That topic got us talking about how Native Americans have their own zodiac calendar. We googled and found a lot of good info that we had fun sifting through.

And that conversation led us to talking about the Chinese zodiac. Once again, google led us down a path of fun discovery!

Since we were all cuddled up on the couch I pulled out the new Yesteryear Gazette we just received yesterday. One of the articles this month was on cigarettes and how they used to be perceived as healthy and how and why that changed. Miss 12 asked why they don't just make them illegal. That then sparked a conversation about prohibition.

We then watched this video on prohibition by Oversimplified on You Tube. Highly recommend as it had us all laughing at the humorous way it told the history.

Lastly, my girls pulled out their math notebooks. They decided today should be a math morning and asked me to write some equations down for them to solve. They don't often ask for math, so when they do, I try to hit it hard and go until they are tired of it!

A full day of learning without curriculum. We covered so much today! And while doing it we got to cuddle and laugh and love <3!
